Vashon Artist Residency Recap

Vashon Artist Residency Recap

I returned Thursday to Seattle from a three-and-a-half week artist residency on Vashon. It was an amazing experience to reconnect with myself and the natural world in such an immediate way. I was entranced by the water and tiny crabs nibbling my toes, moon jellyfish, jumping fish, gulls, cormorants, deer, and the trees.

The gift of time to concentrate and emotionally and intellectually work through my personal art practice was a gift. After years of literally working small, I created two huge canvases. One measures 17 feet long and the other 11. The time, space, and community artists and writers taught me a great deal about myself, my work, and the path forward.
